Here's One Way God Does Care for You!
God sends messengers to guide us.
Hagar and Ishmael were cast out from their home. The story strikes fear in us as we imagine Hagar watching her teenage child die of thirst and exposure. She knows no help will come, so she awaits his and her own death. Then God hears Ishmael’s cries and brings help. Both Ishmael and his mother live and fulfill God’s promise to them—a nation of descendants. Read about it in Genesis 21.
Hundreds of years later, God sent angels to guide descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as they conquered the land God promised them (Genesis 23:20-23). God even sent angels to guide Jesus as he endured temptation by the devil (Matthew 4:11). And God sent angels to rescue Peter from jail. (Acts 12)
God created angels to serve God’s purposes, and we receive that help at times when we don’t even know it.
This season I’ve heard stories of angels showing up to rescue people in accidents, falls, and even to help start a car! They are beautiful stories of God caring for us by sending messengers who help.
Remember this: angels are simply messengers. Their arrival might be make surprise us, but the message they bring is the important point because it reveals God’s presence, power, and kindness in our lives. They help us realize that God is real, and that he cares deeply for us. His plan is to bring all people into a peaceful, loving relationship with him, as God always intended.

Let’s be sure to gather this weekend at Bear or Elsmere campuses to worship, pray together, learn of God’s love and his purpose for our lives.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for loving us so much that you care about our lives here. Send your messengers to announce good news, to warn, and to guide us into your plans and purposes. Give us your strength so that we can also be your messengers where we are needed especially at this time of year. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
