How to Create Family Unity
My Grandparents Set a Tradition for Harmony

In my early years, I lived with my mom, dad, and my brother in an apartment around the corner from my mother's parents. Holiday get-togethers were a big deal, but money was tight so mom and dad weren't in a position to host a holiday meal. For Thanksgiving we would go to my father's parents, the Poindexters, and for Christmas, we'd go to my mother's parents, the Jordans.

On Christmas when I was two, Santa left a bed, high chair, and carriage under the tree for me and my doll. When it was time to go to my grandparents, I didn't want to leave my new toys. I insisted that the bed, high chair and carriage go with me. Just picture this: There we all were--Mom, Dad, and two small children walking down the street--me pushing my doll's carriage and my father carrying the high chair and bed.

The following year we moved into a big house with plenty of room for get-togethers. It even had a fireplace and chimney for Santa! Thanksgiving was not far off and the dinner was supposed to be hosted by my parents, which meant the family Christmas celebration was supposed to be at Daddy Ira and Lelah Jordan's house. But for the love of us children, my grandmother and grandfather switched the plans and hosted Thanksgiving. That way, my brother and I could have Christmas in
our own home. Neither Lillian nor Ira (their real names) felt that it was fair to take children away from fun at home on Christmas day. This tradition started for our family and lasted many years … even beyond the years that David and I were too old for toys. I thank my wise grandparents for showing us how our extended family can live in harmony especially through life's changes.

"How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in harmony." Psalm 133:1

We are here to love God and all people so that all people may experience the

life-changing love of Jesus!

LOVE - We meet every weekend to experience God's love for us and show His love for others.

SERVE- We use our abilities, talents, skills, and passions for the good of others.

ENGAGE - We engage with friends to care for one another and to make new friends so they may experience God's kindness too.

Made for More

We are looking for Elves to phone families and determine what an appropriate gift for the kids would be. Can you help us?

Made for More

Please pray with me: Heavenly Father, Lay Your hands on our hearts so we can learn to live and love one another in unity just as You love us. Show us how to care for our families especially during holiday. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen
