How to Listen to God in a World of Clamor
You Were Created With Ears to Hear
You are amazing! God created you that way. And I thank God for you. One of your amazing features is your ears! (Really?) Yes. Let's use them for a moment: Take ten seconds to be quiet. One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three ... Did you hear anything? Most likely. Only a few of us live in complete silence, and even that is a great adjustment to make.
God created us to hear. That's obvious. But not so obvious is that we were created to hear God too. As we learn more about prayer, we'll practice the art of listening to God. For now, just give thanks to God that you can hear.
Ears to hear and eyes to see--both are gifts from the Lord. (Proverbs 20:12)
Learning to listen to God in the midst of a world of noise is tricky, to say the least. One strategy is simply to slow down, set aside a few moments, and to focus on God. Another strategy is God's Word. The Bible is also God speaking to us. Take time to hear God today. Get in a calm, quiet spot, and read a few verses from the Bible. Try Psalm 64 if you don't know what to read. I'll be glad to talk with you and answer any questions or just have some conversation. Email, text, or call me!
Our loving Creator, thank you for ears to hear. We ask for your power to bring hope to this world. Free our friends and neighbors from addiction. Provide food, shelter, and safety to those who need. Thank you for your long-suffering mercy and grace, through Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
