Are You Going Where You're Watching?
Fix Your Hopes on Jesus
Starting on Easter, we'll be considering the effects of Jesus' resurrection in our lives. What difference does Jesus make to me? If you're wondering, come join us. Here's a quick story about one of the effects in our lives. Jesus changes our focus.
My dad loved family car rides. With the family nestled in the station-wagon, he’d lead us over hills and across valleys in upstate New York looking at anything we could see. That meant his eyes were not always on the road. But Mom’s eyes were.
“Larry! Watch where you’re going!” She’d yell.
“Oops!” He’d reply as he jerked the car back into the right lane. Then he’d say with a very slight tone of embarrassed confession, “I guess I was going where I was looking instead of looking where I was going.”
You could feel Mom's irritation seething, but I never heard her taunt sarcastically, “Do you think? Keep your eyes on the road."
We read in the Bible, “Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.” –Colossians 3:1
Jesus, having been raised from the dead, changes everything. By trusting him enough to live as he says, Jesus gives us new vision for our lives, new hopes, new desires, and all of it comes from our focus on Jesus. He is the one who gives us new life.
We celebrate Him this Easter, and we’ll be talking about what his resurrection means for us. Please ask a friend to join you as we celebrate Jesus together.
Jesus our New-Life-Giver, thank you for submitting yourself unto death. We like to think we don't need you, but we do. We pray for our family, friends, and neighbors who do not trust you. Fill us with your love, like bright light, to shine through so everyone can see how glorious, loving, and powerful you are until every knee shall bow that you are Lord of all. Amen.
