How to Turn Anger to Good
"I can't take any more!"
When was the last time you decided, “I just can’t take any more!”
Some people get angry quickly. We call them “hot heads.” Other’s have “slow fuses” and simmer for a while before acting on their anger. Just reading the newspaper or listening to the news can make people angry. Anger is a powerful emotion that God created us to experience.
God also experiences anger. One difference between our human anger and God’s anger is that God’s anger is always righteous and causes God to act for good rather than evil. Yes, even in the Old Testament when we see many people die because of God’s anger, the greater plan is to restore humanity rather than to destroy it.
This weekend, our message looks at God’s anger as a reality that intends to move us toward life and away from death.
Colossians 3:6 says plainly, “Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.” It’s a fair waring. God’s anger is real, but you can trust that the outcome of God’s anger is to give and prolong life rather than destroy it.
God loves you. God desires you to have full and abundant life now and forever. He sent his son, Jesus, not to condemn us but to save us from ourselves.
I hope you’ll trust that and join us this weekend to give thanks, to celebrate Jesus, and to encourage one another in God’s presence.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for forgiving the sins of all people. Help us to proclaim that forgiveness so that all people will recognize you as the source of life and the one who restores us to new and eternal life. In Jesus’ name we ask this. Amen.
