We Need Inside-Out Change in Our World!
Jesus Changes Everything
Charles was in charge of the church’s finances. He was gifted to do that job because he was an accountant. In retirement, he volunteered to manage the church’s money. The problem was that everyone was scared of him. He was bald, overweight, hunchbacked after a career of sitting at a desk poring over figures. He hardly said a word anyone could understand because he mumbled with a heavy yet sophisticated southern drawl. (We lived in south Georgia then.) And he was gruff. He absolutely protected the finances of the church and demanded great rationale for spending any money. He was the “poster-child” of a crotchety, miserly, old curmudgeon. He was Scrooge.
But then something strange happened. Charles had heart surgery. Literally. After a serious heart attack and following open-heart surgery, Charles was a different man. He never talked about what happened. But we all experienced the change. No, he never stood up straight, and he still mumbled, but his attitude about money, and church, and people changed. He loosened his grip on the church’s purse-strings. He was much more easy to talk with. He still expected good reasons to spend money, but he became glad to help others through the church’s resources. Charles was a changed man because of his faith in Jesus.
Still, no one knows how Jesus changed his mind and attitudes, but even Charles would say Jesus did.
Jesus changes lives. When we trust in Jesus, we are not the same. Everything changes. Sometimes the change in attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors is immediate. Sometimes it’s not. Either way, Jesus transforms our lives through his love and power.
You can trust Jesus, confess your wrong-doings, trust his forgiveness, and begin to do as Jesus teaches. Your life will change from the inside-out.
Below are several ways you might use your abilities to serve God and others with grateful generosity.
