Jesus Really Does Care for You!
Pressure!...Under Pressure!

“It's the terror of knowing what this world is about
Watching some good friends screaming "Let me out!"
Pray tomorrow takes me higher
Pressure on people, people on streets”

These lyrics of the song by Queen feel appropriate today as they did when they were written. I’m especially surprised that in every stage of life, we still feel great stress and pressure. The meaning of this song has been true since the beginning of time.

At Easter, we remember the pressure Jesus experienced during his trial and death. He gave up his life so that you and I can experience God’s love that actually does relieve pressure in our lives. We all know that pressure and stress are realities of life, and when we feel them, we have to choose to allow it to lead us to strength instead of destruction. God does not want us defeated in life. And for some people, experiencing that takes great effort.

Jesus’ disciple Peter said, “Cast all your cares on God because he cares for you.” Jesus cares for you. His love presses on life’s anxiety so that it strengthens us instead of destroying us. That’s great news. To experience that, all we need to do is humble ourselves to him, trust him, and cast our cares on him.

Freddie Mercury and David Bowie (writers of the song) also give witness to the power of love, which comes from God. They end their song with these words:

For love is an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves

As we cast our cares on God and humble ourselves before him, we learn and experience God’s transforming love that allows us to care for others and not just ourselves. Let’s do that.

Here are some ways you can care for others:

Heavenly Father, God of us all, thank you for caring for us. Sometimes we forget. Some people don’t know that you do care. We cast our worries and cares on you so that we can turn and love others as you love us. Fill us with your Holy Spirit as we follow you. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
