Walking the Walk
Servant's Hearts
Yesterday, I met two amazing people. Their names are Scott and Faye. They are homeless.
Actually, by most people’s standards, they are homeless. But, being creative and resourceful people, they have created a home on the back of their vehicle, by using scrap material they have found (see picture). The interior is functional, and provides a place for them to sleep and shelter from inclement weather. On the front of the truck there is a small generator, that provides power to heat or cool this tiny home on wheels. The generator also provides power for lights,
charging cell phones, AND a flat screen TV! They have even named their vehicle LOSEABAGO (it took me a minute to get the pun).
Scott and Faye have lived this way for about two years. They have taken their situation, however, and created their own purpose and ministry. They load their truck with food, sleeping bags, tents, coats---whatever donations they can obtain or purchase at a low price---and they take the supplies to known places where the homeless congregate. They pray with those who need prayer. They offer rides to folks. When they are able, they even open the back door of their home, where the TV is hung, and set out stools and blankets, and show a movie to a small group of folks who are living outdoors, in an effort to “make it feel a little like home, even if it’s just for a night.”
Scott and Faye freely shared their story, accepted a couple cartons and bags of food, prayed with me and went on their way promising to keep in touch. I went home yesterday blessed and humbled. Scott and Faye are working hard to make the world around them a little better right where they are—in their current situation. As we continue our Parables of Invitation message series, I am encouraged to have seen living proof that each person really can extend an invitation to SOMEONE without looking too far.
Let’s all open our eyes to those around us. And let’s ask God whom God is preparing to accept our invitation to God’s table.
I hope you will join us this weekend, either online at ctcde.online.church at 9 or
11AM on Sunday, or in person in Bear at 6PM Saturday or 9AM or 11 AM Sunday

I’d like to finish with this prayer for you: Thank you, Lord God, for our many blessings. Lead us to those people and places where we can best serve you. And, give us eyes and hearts like Faye and Scott, that we might see those opportunities that are right where we are. Jesus name we pray,
Amen.
