Weekly Newsletter June 4

I find it hard to believe that this month marks 11 years since I was “downsized” from Wilmington Trust Company. Even though I never thought that banking was my true calling---it was what I knew, so when my job ended, it was somewhat traumatic for me. I really didn’t know what type of position to seek, and I was floundering for a while. The bank was a place where we were taught that everything we did should follow the company “strategic plan.” I didn’t have a “strategic plan” for my own life.

But God had a plan. Five years, almost to the day, from leaving Wilmington Trust, I found myself in the pulpit of Christ United Methodist Church—which is now the Elsmere Campus of Christ the Cornerstone. What in the world…..? I didn’t know how to be a pastor….I knew how to be a banker!

But, over these past six years, God has given me the tools I needed at the very moment I needed them. 

Hebrews 13:20-21 has this prayer for us:

Now may the God of peace—who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood— may he equip you with all you need for doing his will.

May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen!

I know now that I don’t have to be afraid of anything the Lord asks of me. If I follow God, in faith, he will equip me.

I may not have a “strategic plan.” But thankfully, God does.

Thank you, Lord God, for inviting us to share you with others. Thank you for equipping us to invite others into your family. Continue to lead us to those with whom we can share your story, so that others may know the Good News of Jesus.
Amen.

CtC-SUMMER CAMP for children completing grades k-6. Each summer, CtC offers an 11 week camp for elementary and middle school (6th grade) students. Children experience the excitement of summer with outdoor activities, arts and crafts, games, and field trips. Camp starts June 13 and goes until August 26th.
