Once you've earned authority, it should be used to help and lift up one another.

Use Authority Wisely!

Shortly after I graduated college in 1982, I got my first teaching job in a Catholic school. I had a hard time in the beginning, because I was the youngest teacher on the faculty, and the students had a difficult time accepting my authority. But as time went on, my relationship with the students grew.

I learned back then, that it takes time to earn the trust and respect of the students before the teacher has any real authority over the class. Years later, I learned the same was true in the business world. Sometimes real authority is earned. Jesus, though, is the ultimate authority. His authority comes from Himself as God. In Scripture, we see that Jesus has authority over even the spirit world. Whenever Jesus exercised his authority, though, he did so with love. The world values power and authority, and, in our human condition, it’s sometimes tempting to misuse authority.

Let’s always follow the example of Jesus and use whatever authority we have to do good.
