Strange Times Point Us to Hope
A road sign is not the destination. It only points you along your way to the place you want to be.
Imagine I invite you to go to the beach with me. We’re driving along the highway and when I see the first road sign for “Bethany Beach” I pull the car over to the side of the road and come to a dead stop right under the sign.
“Okay, we’re here!” I shout.
You’d think I was crazy and you’d tell me to step on the gas and follow the road to the beach! The road sign isn’t the destination. It only indicates which direction to go to get there.
Jesus said to those who trust in him:
"At that time, after the anguish of those days,
the sun sill be darkened,
the moon will give no light,
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming
on the clouds with great power and glory!” (Mark 13:24-26)
Jesus is coming again, and we have been seeing the signs of his return ever since he ascended into heaven. Every generation of believers has recognized the signs that show us to turn back to God and place our trust in Jesus. COVID, wars, and mysterious events all are part of the signs. Still no one knows the day or time of Jesus’ return. We simply must be ready. While we wait. We wait. I mean, we serve—just like a “waiter” at a restaurant. We serve one another lovingly as we trust Jesus to be who he says he is. He forgives all our sin. He restores our soul. He comforts and teaches us his ways. We have hope. The world may have dark days and difficult times. These are merely signs that point us to place our hope in Jesus. So let's trust in him and have hope!
