Realizing the authority of God's love
I Should Have Obeyed mom...
When I was ten years old, I asked Mom if I could ride my bicycle with two friends to another friend’s house. She said “No.” But a few minutes later, we were out of her sight and on our way anyway. She never would have known (I thought) except that on the way home, I lost control of my bike going down a hilly dirt road and fell off my bike. I skinned hands, elbows, chest and knees. I was really sore and bleeding. A neighbor, and friend of Mom’s helped me get cleaned up, but of course she had to call my mom. I took a while healing from my disobedience. I also learned my lesson. Mom wasn’t trying to be mean. She was looking out for my safety because she loves me.
God is the same way. We can look at the authority of God and rebel against it thinking that we know better than God how to live our own lives. But that’s a very childish way to live life that God gave to us in the first place. When we trust that God is love, and God’s ways for us bring us life, then we can more quickly turn toward God and love him along with others. God forgives us and restores us to a good relationship with Him and others.
Colossians 1:13-14 says, “For God has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.”
Let’s meet this weekend to love God, serve one another in Jesus’ name, and engage the world with God’s love.

Loving God, your authority over all of life is motivated by love because you are love. Forgive us for turning away from you. Fill our hearts and minds with your Holy Spirit so that we can fully trust in you and live as you desire and create us to live. Then we will have full,
abundant, and joy-filled lives.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
