Jesus Hiked Pikes Peak With Me
When You're On Top of the World

Last week at this time, Carolyn and I were climbing Pikes Peak in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I was tremendously grateful to be riding on the brand new cog-rail train! Pikes Peak is not the highest mountain in the Rockies or in the world, but the view is still pretty cool. I enjoyed walking through knee-deep snow and looking across hundreds of miles. God's creation is simply breath-taking from almost any location.

Jesus walked up a mountain with James, Peter, and John. At the summit, they met with Moses and Elijah. That's pretty breath-taking when you think about it. Peter blathered about building some kind of shelter...kind of like placing a plaque atop Pikes Peak to commemorate the climb. But while Peter was blabbing away in amazement, God shut him up with a great thunder clap. God spoke and said about Jesus: "This is my beloved son. LISTEN TO HIM!"

Do you ever get talking too much and forget to be quiet to listen to God? Then something happens to snap you back to another reality? I do.

Jesus is worth listening to. You don't have to struggle up a mountain to learn that, either. Pause right now. Jesus will come to you wherever you are. Mountain top or deep dark valley. Jesus meets us where we are, and he is still God's beloved son telling us that God forgives us. He teaches us how to live lives full of joy, peace, and purpose. We need-- No, I need that every day. If you haven't already, ask Jesus to remind you of God's love for you. Then listen to him.

By the way, here's a picture I took from the mountain top. Enjoy it while you listen to Jesus today.
