When things become habits or rituals, sometimes it robs busof the joy
Daily Routines

My two dogs, Bridey and Carter, have a routine. This is largely due to the fact that, when I had a 9-5 job, things like feeding and walks had to be on a schedule. Lately, though, I’ve been stopping for a break in the middle of the day at different times and taking the dogs for a walk. This brings me joy, and I believe the dogs are happier also. When we allow things to become routine…. or just a chore…. the real meaning is gone. For me, the walks are a bonding time for the dogs and I…. so much more
than just a chore.

Join us this weekend as we talk about how we can avoid making worship a chore, by not allowing spiritual actions and symbols to become routine and ritualistic. The spiritual fire can be extinguished when we allow empty rituals to become the end rather than a means of grace.

This week, try varying your spiritual routine. Take a walk, or do something else you enjoy…..and invite God to join you. Making time to talk to God while you are enjoying yourself might open up a whole new experience of the Creator who enjoys spending time with YOU!!

I’d like to finish with this prayer for you. Thank you, Lord God, for sending Jesus who wants to be part of all we do. May we invite Him into our times of joy, and not just when we are crying out in despair. Help us to make time with Jesus something to which we look forward. It is in His name we pray, Amen.
